Singing in the Suzuki Style for Children & Youth

 

These are singing "adventures" for children and youth. Using the proven and effective Suzuki style, children explore pitch, movement, sequencing and musical expressiveness. We use folk songs, singing games and dramatic play. Rhythm and notation skills are started here. Children and youth participate in ensemble performances, with opportunities for solo experiences as well.

Ages 3-6 / Suzuki Starlight I & II


Introducing the joys of singing. Pitch exploration, movement, sequencing and musical expressiveness taught through authentic folk songs, singing games and dramatic play. Rhythm and notation skills are begun. Children participate in solo and ensemble experiences.

Ages 5-8 / Suzuki Twinkle I & II

 

Reinforcing the skills developed in Starlight Songbook, while improving musical expressiveness and tonal accuracy through Solfege and independent singing games. Sight singing and musicianship skills are developed. Foreign language & culture is introduced through the folk songs including seven different languages. Children participate in solo and ensemble experiences.

Ages 7-9 / Royal Conservatory Introductory Songbook


Repertoire is expanded with pieces that allow students to create a Circus in their final recital.
Dramatic, expressive, and musical talents are improved in a very fun format. Children participate in
esolo and ensemble experiences.

Ages 9-11 / Classics Songbook


Expanding posture, breathing, vocal exploration, flexibility and beautiful tone. Reinforcing musical expressiveness through movement and gestures. Foreign language skills are developed. Sight singing and musicianship skills are expanded. Children participate in solo and ensemble experiences.

Ages 11-14 / Classics Songbook II & III


These classes go beyond the Suzuki Method and explore an even higher level of musical skill and experience. The emphasis is on refinement of vocal technique and expressive singing through more advanced repertoire. Vocal agility and beautiful tone is emphasized through the expressive use of the voice and body. Sight singing and musicianship skills are emphasized. These young singers enjoy opportunities for solo and ensemble experiences.

ABOUT VOICEWORKS

 

VoiceWorks Studios are located in Provo, just south of Timpview High School.  Debra and Barry Bounous, founders of VoiceWorks Singing Studios, are professional performers and recording artists, renowned for their ability to teach complex vocal skills in a fun and relaxed environment. 

 

Their foundational instruction applies to singing styles from classical to contemporary.  Both are members of Brigham Young University’s Voice Faculty, and they are excited to extend their expertise to children and adults throughout the community.
